1:1 Yoga in hackney, east london
Yoga - which is made up of breath work, physical postures, meditation and relaxation - can be an extraordinary tool for healing, releasing stress, reducing anxiety and safely letting go of trauma stored in the body.
The origins of the word “yoga” stem from the Sanskrit stem -yuj, meaning “to unite”. The aim of yoga practice is to unite or find harmony between mind, body and soul and to enjoy balance and a natural state of ease.
. . .
All bodies are welcome and there’s no such thing as “being bad at yoga.”
I’m passionate about making yoga accessible, simple and relevant to contemporary life so you won’t find any advanced postures or esoteric practices in my teaching. And while your flexibility and strength are likely to improve over time, they are a positive side effect of the practice rather than the goal.
Yoga is all about quieting the mind and opening the heart and soul to more of life — which we do via the body.
What I offer is therapeutic rather than dynamic and enquiring rather than dogmatic. And while I believe the best tonic for the madness of modern life is a practice that slows and softens us so we can live with more ease and pleasure, I tailor every session to your needs and bring a combination of tools from Yin, Hatha and Restorative yoga to support you.
. . .
With over a decade’s teaching experience and a specialist interest in trauma, I know that the body holds on to painful experiences and will continue to cause psychic pain unless we release it and practice nervous system regulation. For many of us, living in our heads, disconnected from our bodies, overwhelmed, lost, fearful, always busy and running on auto has become the norm.
I focus on creating a space for your nervous system and body to feel safe, to relax and to let go of whatever you are holding onto so you can begin the valuable work of healing and live with a greater feeling of spaciousness and vitality. My approach is gentle, evidence-based and trauma informed and prioritises reconnection with the breath, body and sensations.
Whether you’re new to the practice, returning after a hiatus or have been referred by a counsellor or psychotherapist, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space for you to experience energetic, emotional and physical release followed by peace. In both my personal and professional experience, yoga as a “bottom- up” approach pairs beautifully with the “top-down” approach offered by talking therapy and you may want to talk to your therapist about combining the two.
. . .
Over the years I’ve worked with a broad range of people, from busy professionals and doctors on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic to charities, teenagers, corporates, university students and war veterans healing PTSD.
My clients deeply appreciate the opportunity to enjoy time and space for themselves, to explore non-linear and enjoyable movement, to cultivate a practice of self enquiry, self care and compassion, and ultimately, to find liberation in the mind, body and psyche. Students regularly report how much calmer, more joyful, positive and in control they feel of their lives after working with me.
I particularly love to work with people on reducing the symptoms of trauma, stress and anxiety, those navigating grief or personal difficulty and those who are new to yoga or skeptical about the benefits of the practice, as this is where the greatest potential for transformation lies, but please do reach out if I haven’t covered what you’re looking for and we can certainly chat.

testimonials
“I first approached Ellie to see if she could help me through a particularly difficult time due to bereavement and recovering from breast cancer. Initially I booked 10 private sessions which I found so helpful I immediately booked a further 10. I have found Ellie’s approach and varied knowledge of restorative, meditative yoga really helpful in learning to relax, rest and sleep. Ellie’s nurturing and encouragement has given me the confidence in flow yoga which has improved my strength, balance and focus. I have recommended Ellie to so many of my clients.”
“Ellie helped me over 3 weeks at home post surgery, firstly through meditation to enhance recovery and rest and secondly to focus on healing using restorative, yin and hatha yoga to enable movement in a mindful way. She was able to help me relax through discomfort and then introduced gentle movements, which speeded up my healing process. She is empathetic, patient, knowledgeable and has the most calming manner. After my surgery she was able to deliver meditation and movement to compliment post surgical care and recovery. Not only did it help with the physical aspect of my recovery, but also aided my mental well-being by increasing my confidence in understanding my body and the healing process.”
“I loved working with Ellie. She helped me deal with my anxiety in a way I wasn’t able to on my own. She also taught me the basics of yoga and how to love every bit of it we did together. She is very knowledgeable and has a passion for what she does. Her patience gave me the feeling that I was able to control my anxiety better. I would 100% recommend working with Ellie if you want to learn to control your anxiety using a variety of breathing exercises and meditation, or if you simply love yoga.”
“I decided to book private yoga classes on the back of a busy London work schedule and a lot of personal grief. I’ve since seen a huge improvement in my stress management and general wellbeing. Ellie has been super cool.”
“I felt very calm and centred after a private yoga class with Ellie. I’m normally so stressed and anxious that it was actually a little disconcerting! That memory of deep relaxation has however left a trace in my body that I continue to find helpful and important. Ellie is a warm and generous teacher, who is also able to talk intelligently about what she does: helping me for example to understand my psychological resistance to a newfound state of body/mind. Thanks so much, Ellie.”
