Make impact: TRAUMA INFORMED YOGA TEACHER MENTORSHIP DAY
Do you need help reaching new or underserved communities with your yoga teaching?
Are you a healthcare worker looking to initiate a yoga project within your community to improve the lives of your patients?
Do you need help with the practical side of getting a yoga program going beyond the studio setting?
I’m here to support you in clarifying your ideas, expanding the reach of your teaching and making a lasting impact bringing a trauma informed yoga program to your chosen community.
This MENTORSHIP day is for you if…
You’re a trauma informed yoga teacher (whether you’ve trained with me or elsewhere) who wants to take your teaching beyond the studio setting and into healthcare, education or social care
You’re a healthcare worker wanting to bring a trauma informed yoga program to your patients
You’ve trained in trauma informed yoga, have been integrating the learning into your teaching and are now ready to take the next step with community, education or healthcare work
You want to take your teaching to specialist or underserved communities but don’t know where to start
You envision working with vulnerable or underserved communities whether that’s in youth work, healthcare, education or within your local community and you need support in getting going
You’ve got lots of ideas about taking yoga off the mat but you need direction and clarity so you can move forward
You need support knowing who to specialise working with - there are so many groups but picking one is hard
You need help knowing how to select and speak to the needs of those people
You need to know how to tailor your teaching to speak to the needs of your chosen community
You want to build confidence and feel secure in what you’re teaching and why
You want to feel secure sharing the value of your work and its outcomes
You want to feel comfortable talking about the pricing of your work and handling money (if relevant)
You want to plan a pilot yoga project that is directly relevant to the needs of your community so you can pitch and deliver it with confidence
You want to learn how to measure the success of your program so you can run it repeatedly - in the same community or beyond
You want to be mentored by an experienced teacher who has worked across a diversity of communities
Overview
This mentorship is informed by my 10+ years study of yoga, mindfulness, somatics, neuroscience, psychotherapy, social entrepreneurship and yoga as a tool for social change, plus my practical application of knowledge in the field.
With a decade’s experience bringing yoga into healthcare, education, charities, veterans groups and local communities, I have a ton of knowledge on how to present yoga, how to persuade policymakers of its value, how to measure outcomes and ensure its longevity - and essentially, how to get lift-off on a project (even where skeptics are involved.)
Don’t be fooled - this is hard work that requires patience, commitment and tenacity but with my support, you’ll be well on your way.
Plus, the world of mental and social healthcare is changing rapidly with increasing numbers of public, private and third sector organisations recognising - and reaching out for - holistic, integrative and evidence-based trauma informed yoga programs. Gone are the days when people thought yoga was weird and “woo woo” - society is really waking up to the value of the practice and wants to learn more. You can be that provider.
Who is this mentorship day for?
This mentorship day is open primarily to 200-hour trained yoga teachers who have undertaken training in trauma informed yoga practice and who wish to bring yoga into the field of education, community, healthcare or social care.
This course is also suitable for Psychotherapists, Psychologists, Social Workers and Counsellors who wish to initiate a pilot yoga project within their community and need the practical skills and knowledge to do so.
Please note: if you do not have a 200-hour teacher training qualification you are welcome to join the mentorship though you would not be formally qualified to teach yoga without a 200-hour training.
what will we cover?
Uncovering your purpose and your ‘why’ for teaching
Understanding who you want to work with and the issues your chosen community lives with*
Getting clear on how yoga can support those issues
Learning how to communicate the value of yoga for your chosen community
Presenting the benefits of the practice in everyday terms so that people sign up and keep returning
Designing your own pilot yoga program that you can pitch right off the bat in a community of your choice
Identifying people, places or organisations you can approach to launch your pilot
Identifying any challenges in setting up your pilot program and troubleshooting in advance
Digging deep into your worth and value as a teacher
Getting comfortable talking about your rate of pay and handling money (if relevant)
Setting intentions and creating a roadmap for next steps
Holding yourself and one another accountable to making progress and sticking with it (I’ll be doing this for you too!)
Following up with me 30 days later for a 60 min 1:1 call to check in on your progress, hold you accountable to bringing the vision for your work to life and offer any additional support
*If you know already you want to teach teenage girls with eating disorders or young men with anger issues or people going through chemotherapy treatment - whatever it is, there is so much scope for it and your work is truly, deeply needed.
If you don’t know who you want to work with but you have an inkling, I will help you clarify that idea and pursue a path of fulfilling, specific, needs-meeting teaching which (IMHO) is so much more enriching and fulfilling than running around teaching generic ‘yoga for everyone’ and which helps you build a niche for yourself (so you can become known for doing that thing really well over time).
Past mentees have designed and gone on to offer trauma informed pilot yoga programs for veterans at risk of suicide, mental health charities, fire brigades, humanitarian aid workers, people navigating grief, sexual trauma or career overwhelm - and many more.
